| Conditions under which Fasting is not obligatory: |
| 1. Journey: Allah has allowed Muslims to forego fasting during journey. But these left over fasts will have to be observed later on. |
2. Sickness: One may also suspend fasting during sickness but these too have to be observed later on. |
| 3. Pregnancy: Pregnant women are also allowed to give up fasting but they will also have to complete the number of missed fasts at other times. |
| 4. Breast Feeding: Those women who breast-feed their children are also exempted from fasting. But they will also have to observe the missed fasts. |
| 5. Excessive hunger or thirst: If one is afflicted with excessive hunger or thirst, and it is difficult for one to control, one is allowed to suspend the fast, but one has to keep it when the problem is over. |
| 6. Weakness and Old age: One is allowed to give up fasting in weakness and old age, if one is unable to control oneself. |
| 7. Fear of Death: If one fears death due to hunger and thirst, one is allowed to give up fasting. |
| 8. Jihad: During Jihad also, people are allowed to suspend fasting. |
| 9. Unconsciousness: One who becomes unconscious or go in coma should observe his fasts after his recovery. |
| 10. Mentally Deficiency: Mentally deficient people are also exempted from fasting |
