Miladun Nabi
(Birthday of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم )
Muslims are supposed to follow only two sources of Islamic knowledge – The Holy Qur-an and the authentic Sunnah (Traditions) of the Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم .
Islam was completed by Allah (God) in the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم without any doubt.
…This day, I have perfected your Religion for you, completed My Favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion….
Surah (Chapter) al-Ma”idah (The Table Spread with Food) 5:3
The Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم , at the time of Hajjatul Vada” (Farewell Hajj) in the year 10 Hijrah, concluded his last Khutbah (Sermon) by raising his finger to heavens: "Be my Witness O Allah, that I have conveyed Your message to Your people."
There is absolutely no room for any improvement, additions or subtractions in the religion of Islam after Allah (God) has perfected it and the Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم had delivered its completed version to his Sahabah (Companions).
Allah (God) has forbidden to do anything else, besides following the Sunnah (Traditions) of the Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم . Deviating from this Command will result in Severe Punishment from Allah (God).
What Allah gave as booty (Fai') to his Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم ) from the people of the townships, - it is for Allah, his Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم ), the kindred (of Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم ), the orphans, AlMasakin (the poor), and the wayfarer, in order that it may not become a fortune used by the rich among you. And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم ) gives you, take it, and whatsoever He forbids you, abstain (from it), and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Severe in punishment.
Make not the calling of the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم ) among you as your calling of one another. Allah knows those of you who slip away under shelter (of some excuse without taking the permission to leave, from the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم ). And let those who oppose the Messenger's (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم ) commandment (i.e. his Sunnah legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements, etc.) (among the sects) beware, lest some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions, earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant, etc.) befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them.
Surah (Chapter) an-Nur (The Light) 24:63
It is a great sin to even think of the possibility of adding anything to the religion of Islam after it was perfected by Allah (God) and delivered to mankind by His last Messenger, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم .
Muslims must follow the Sunnah (Traditions) of the Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم .
Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم ) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.
Surah (Chapter) al-Ahzab (The Confederates) 33:21
Adding a new practice in Islam is called Bid’ah (Innovation). The Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم had repeatedly warned against it.
“I warn you of the newly invented matters (in the religion), and every newly invented matter is Bid’ah, and every bid’ah is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire.” (Nasa”i)
He who innovates something in this matter of ours that is not of it, will have it rejected. (Bukhari and Muslim)
The last Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم was born on the 12th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar.
The Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم never celebrated his birthday, nor did the Sahabahرضي الله عنهم who revered him so much, ever celebrated it.
The Sahabah (Companions of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) who had the opportunity to witness the revelations of the Holy Qur-an, unfold amidst themselves and had the unique distinction of living the Sunnah (Traditions of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) under the ulimate guidance of the Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم . They practiced Islam in its truest form along with the Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم.
The next two generations after the Sahabah (Companions of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) also practiced Islam in the same pure form.
‘A”ishah bint Abu Bakr رضى الله عنها narrated that the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “The best of people is my generation, then those who come after them, then those who came after them (i.e. the first three generations of Muslims)."
Bukhari and Muslim - Mutawatir Shaykh Al Albani declares it Hasan in Sahih Al Jaami' no.3288.
No one from these generations celebrated the birthday of the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. His birthday was not celebrated or centuries by the generations which came later.
Celebrating ‘Id Miladun Nabi (Festival of the Birth of the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم ) is a Bid’ah (Innovation). Bid’ah (Innovation) of any kind is forbidden in Islam.
Islam allows only two festivals in a year – ‘Id al-Fitr (Festival of Breaking Fast) on the first day of Shawwal and ‘Id al-Ad-ha (Festival of Sacrifice) on the tenth day of Dhul Hijjah.
Celebrating birthdays is a non-Islamic concept which copied by some Muslims to celebrate ‘Id Miladun Nabi (Festival of the Birth of the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم ). There is absolutely no evidence in Islamic literature about it therefore it is a confirmed Bid’ah (Innovation). This practice must be shunned.
And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah's Path. They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but lie.
Surah (Chapter) al-An’am (The Cattle) 6:116
‘Id Miladun Nabi (Festival of the Birth of the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم ) is celebrated with a lot of pomp and show occurring a lot of expenses. The Messenger of Allah, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم had specifically warned about it.
Do not lavish praise on me as the Christians did with the son of Maryam. I am just a slave. So Simply say: The slave of Allah and His Messenger.
Bukhari
To make things worse, people attending the Milad ceremonies stand up to greet the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم , erroneously thinking that he would be present there, going against the specific sayings of Allah (God).
After that, surely, you will die.
Then (again), surely, you will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection.
Surah (Chapter) al-Mu”minun (The Believers) 23:15-16
The Messenger of Allah, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم had said that he would be the first one to be resurrected on the Day of Judgment.
I am the first one to rise from the grave on the Resurrection Day and I will be the first intercessor and the first one whose intercession is to be accepted.
Bukhari
Narrated Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه : The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "I will be the first to raise my head after the second blowing of the trumpet and will see Moses hanging the Throne, and I will not know whether he had been in that state all the time or after the blowing of the trumpet."
Bukhari, Book No.60, Hadith No. 337
These Ayat (Verses) of the Qur-an and the Ahadith (Sayings of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم ) confirm that the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم will be resurrected only on the Day of Judgment.
Upon closer scrutiny, one would find that those actively involved in promoting, practicing and defending Bid’ah (Innovation) are those who are far away from the obligatory ‘Ibadah (Acts of Worship).
Correct way of asking for Blessings for Allah (God) for the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم is also prescribed towards the end of each Salah (Prayer).
Muslims seek blessings for the Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم during each Salah (Prayer).
“O Allah have mercy on Muhammad and those related to Muhammad just as You had mercy on Ibrahim and those related to Ibrahim. Surely, You are Praiseworthy, the Great, O Allah, send blessings on Muhammad, just as You sent blessings on Ibrahim, and those related to Ibrahim. Surely, You are Praiseworthy, the Great.
This is called Salah ‘Alan Nabi (Seeking Allah’s blessing for the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم ). Same Du’a (Supplication) is recited after listening to Adhan (Call for Payer).
Love for the Messenger of Allah, Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم can only be demonstrated through following the Commands of Allah (God) and his Sunnah (Traditions); and not by openly disobeying and disrespecting him.
